There can’t be anyone without knowing about self-care, right?
Self-care is a word that is found on every corner of the internet. Many of us know exactly what to do and what not to do on self care.
If something is trending, there will be few people to spread misinformation. Likewise, there are some myths about self-care. So, after listening to these myths, people will not follow self-care which isn’t good.
So In this post, I’m gonna address few self care myths which are blocking people from getting the benefits of self care.
1) Self-care is Selfish
It is one of the most popular myths about self-care. There are few groups of people who consider the person who practices self-care as selfish. There is a lot of difference between self-care and being narcissistic.
In self-care, you are giving few minutes for yourself. Think, you’re spending most of your time with friends, family, or work. You deserve some special attention, right?
Then, I guess there is nothing wrong with giving attention to yourself for few minutes.
So by the next time when someone says that self-care is selfish, tell them that how special you are, and there is nothing wrong with giving attention to you.
2) Self-care is only for women
After seeing self-care pictures with scented candles, skincare routines, most people misunderstand that self-care is a girly thing. So, only women should do this.
If self-care is only for women, then it should be called ‘women’s care’ not self-care.
Self-care means caring about oneself regardless of gender. If you’re a guy and don’t want to use scented candles, do whatever makes your body and soul happy. It is the key to self care.
3) Self-care is expensive
If you ever thought self-care is expensive, then you are not the only one to think like this.
Most of us are victims of these Self care Myths. By seeing many self-care pictures with expensive things. I too thought that it will be more expensive to self-care. But that’s not the truth.
I realized it later after knowing what self-care means. If you are buying more expensive products for self-care, it will cause you unnecessary stress. So, what’s the use of self-care?
Just practice a self-care routine with what you have. Buy things which are necessary to you.
4) Self-care is time-consuming
Spending time for yourself doesn’t mean spending the whole day or half of the day. You can practice self-care for 5 minutes or 30 minutes based on your schedule.
There aren’t any rules like “spending half of the day is called Self-care”. Taking care of yourself for few minutes is not waste of time.
So, always remember this! You’re worth spending time for yourself. So, don’t think self-care is time consuming.
5) Self-care is ANYTHING
I’ve told before that self-care aims to do the things that make you happy. But not ANYTHING! Who hates to eat junk food? I guess everyone loves to eat junk foods. So, eating junk food for the whole day is not a self-care thing.
Your self-care routine should be something that you love that provides good results to you. Not something that brings bad things. So, always have a healthy, loving self-care practice.
These are all the major self-care myths that are so common today. I guess this will break those myths and help you to learn more about self-care.
